I still remember the old stories that my father and other people used to tell us about. They used to go from Dubai to Al Ain city or Abu Dhabi (~130 to 170 km distance) using a 4×4 Landrover and spend around 6 hours to reach their destination!
Today, people reach Al Ain in an hour and Abu Dhabi in 1 hour and 15 minutes on average.

I won’t talk about the towers, I will only concentrate on the roads and cars!
Roads are much better and wider. Cars are faster and a lot more efficient and comfortable. These things allow easy move of people and material.
I also remember when we used to go to Jebel Ali horse Racecourse 15 years ago. It was like a trip for us. We used to plan for it and wait for some weekend that will give us the reason to go through all that distance from the center of Dubai to the stable’s area.
Today, this area is known to be around DubaiMediaCity! Thousands of people go to this area on a daily basis, it’s a new part of Dubai that didn’t exist 9 years ago. I figured out that the distance is only 15 minutes away by today’s capabilities.
The infrastructure and mobility allowed people to move to different locations that were considered very far in old measures. The development of new infrastructure will make this gap smaller than ever. With the new metro, and future link with all Gulf countries, I think people will travel between them in few hours and remember the days they used to take a lot more time to go through the same distance.
Darrbers should be aware and use this opportunity to their side. It’s becoming easier to travel from one location to another and to move stuff from one point to another. You should be ready to be the first one to use such facilities when they become available.
People use technology to make life easier. If you plan to add an item through Darrb.com, one important way to save a lot of time, money and effort is to guide the Darrber to the location of your address (or destination address) in a very easy and straight forward way.
I remember once when I was going to receive an item through a delivery company. I started describing my location to the driver on the phone, he said “can you come and pick the item from our office? We don’t deliver to such locations”. I was amazed! The service was very bad and I had to convince him that his job is to deliver the item to my door because he was paid to do so, unless I choose to voluntarily pick up the item from their office.
This happened because the delivery company was not sure about the location when they agreed to deliver the item. Things like that can be avoided by describing the addresses in an easy way, which is where Google Maps kicks in.
When you add an item, use the following website and go to the location of the address:
http://maps.google.com, then click on “Link to this page” as it is shown in the above picture and copy/paste the link in the “other information” part of the bid as shown*:
*the above is an example of how Step 3 is when you add an item, you can add the link of the map to the other information would would like to share with the Darrbers.
This will make it very easy for Darrbers to understand where the location is. It saves a lot of time, money and effort.
As mentioned in a previous article, there are many reasons why International Darrbers are needed. They can act as forwarders that receive items within their city/country and forward them by normal mail to the country of the user.
A well known courier has recently increased its “forwarding” rates to offset the operating costs and the increase in fuel price. This courier is known for receiving items from the US (for people buying from Amazon, Ebay ..etc) and forwarding them to their owners in different countries that are not covered by the International shipment of such websites. This is the second time they increase their rates in 2008 and prices went up by nearly 50%.
The continuous increase in fuel price forces companies to increase their rates. As Darrbers, the impact is not huge as it is for companies. This adds another reason on why International Darrbers are needed to fill in this gap!

Summer has arrived and people are planning to go on vacation to many destinations including Europe and East Asia.
Why not making money on the way? If you are going somewhere during summer, why not register as a Darrber and write in your profile which countries/cities you will be visiting in the coming period. People living close to you might want to get something from destinations you are planning to visit.
For example, if you are going to Malaysia, someone living in your city might want to ask for something to be bought from Malaysia. It might be something small and cheap but its not available in his place. He will be willing to pay for this service and you won’t have to spend any extra effort because you are going to Malaysia for shopping any way!
You never know what happens. People might ask for loads of stuff to be bought from a certain country and you might get a good commission because you will save them a trip!
Don’t always think that its a $10 thing. If you save someone a trip, he will be more than happy to pay a lot more than $10!
This interview was conducted with the Darrber SketchupAE while he was on his way to pickup an item for delivery. We have managed to prepare this interview and went with him in his car as he was picking up the item. The Interview focused on many facts that Darrbers deal with. It allows you to have a good understanding on the steps they go through and how Darrb.com really works.
The interview was in Arabic, and we have added the English translation as subtitles in order to give a chance to a bigger audience to understand how things went .
Luckily, we have met a person who works for a delivery company and asked him some questions regarding cost and duration of their service in order to have a “live” comparison between our Darrbers and normal delivery companies.

The employee is telling the “customer” that his job is done in 15 minutes, but Empost (A courier company that has a contract with many government entities to deliver the ID Cards, papers, approvals etc. to people) might take a day, a week or even a month to deliver the stuff to him!
I’ve personally dealt with this company by receiving the National ID Card. I haven’t thought about the 15 minutes printing time and all the delay that comes from the delivery process.
When it reaches a point that this kind of cartoons come up in newspapers, i think its a serious problem that is facing a lot of people. We are talking here about efficiency. It looks like it impacts many people who live in remote areas or in cities that the delivery company doesn’t have a wide coverage in.
We will continue on developing Darrb.com till we reach to a point where Darrbers are being selected to fill the efficiency gap. The remote areas and cities do have a lot of people who can work as Darrbers that can deliver items efficiently enough!
The competition that Darrb.com creates won’t allow any flaws in the delivery process. People want their items to be delivered fast, cheap & safe and this is what Darrb is aiming for.
As promised, we were working on making the process of adding items easier and easier. The blog article of How to Send an Item is now updated to reflect the latest changes.
The steps of adding an item were simplified after getting feedbacks on users experience. We have added an editor and reduced the number of “upload picture” buttons for Step 1.
Step 2 didn’t have much of a change except for adding the “Anywhere” in the country list (and states lists when applicable). We are working on this page specifically to add a new feature which will be announced when its ready.
Step 3 had a lot of change. Its now having only the “Additional Information” and the “Draft” or “Online” selection. We have removed the other options as they were not being used a lot and were adding some sort of confusion to many people.
We will continue to add more improvements and will be very happy to get your feedback. Your opinion makes a lot of difference, so please feel free to add something.
